How does Vantage calculate the wind?
When suitable measured wind data is available, Vantage can use it as the wind reference. Otherwise, it estimates the wind from your recorded sailing and boat-class context, using the wind-strength category you selected.
This lets you review wind-relative measurements such as VMG without a wind sensor. The estimate depends on the recording and session conditions, so check the wind reference if the analysis does not match your sailing.
Does the boat class matter?
Yes. Vantage uses the boat class as context for its analysis, including wind estimation. Choose the boat you actually sailed, with the correct class, when uploading the session.
If you selected the wrong boat, open the activity’s Settings → Edit Activity, choose the correct boat and save. Check the updated activity before comparing its performance.
My analysis looks wrong or a measurement is missing. What should I check?
Start with the track, selected boat and wind-strength category. Check whether the recording includes towing or motoring at the start or end; Settings → Trim Activity lets you keep the sailing interval.
If the displayed wind reference does not match the session, use Settings → Adjust Wind Direction. Inspect several runs in Map or Wind View before applying a correction.
For an empty chart, try Full Activity, All and a basic GPS measurement such as SOG. Some measurements need sensor data that your recording may not contain. A missing value does not mean that zero was measured.
Why can’t I find another sailor or session to compare?
Check that the other activity has finished uploading and processing, your connection or team membership is accepted, and the activity’s visibility allows comparison. Stealth Mode prevents comparisons between different owners. Comparison tools require Pro or Coach.
Compare with others in replay needs overlapping session times. If the activity clock is genuinely wrong, correct it through Settings → Offset Activity Time and check the original and new times.
For sailing on different days, use Advanced Analysis → Compare → Past activities. Keep the actual recording times; historical comparisons do not need the sessions to overlap.
Can I upload videos with a free account?
Video uploads, video analysis and video export require Pro or Coach. This applies to videos kept locally as well as footage stored in the cloud; Starter does not include video features.
Pro and Coach each include 100 GB of cloud video storage for reviewing uploaded footage across devices.
Why doesn’t my video line up with the sailing data?
The video and activity need to cover the same moment. Find a recognizable turn and compare the footage with the track to check whether their clocks agree.
If the camera time is wrong, open Correct Video Timestamp in the video tools and use the alignment preview. Choose Apply correction, select which videos it applies to, and check another event later in the clip.
If the activity recording itself has the wrong time, use Settings → Offset Activity Time instead. Correct the clock that is wrong so the session stays aligned with other sailors and footage.
Why is my video on my phone but missing on the web?
Video features require Pro or Coach, whether your footage is local or in the cloud. A clip attached from your phone can still be Local only. To open it on another device, complete its cloud upload first.
On the original device, open Profile → Video storage. Find the clip and choose Upload cloud copy if needed. Wait until it is In the cloud, then sign in to the same account on the web and open the activity.
If the upload cannot finish, check your connection and the storage allowance shown on that screen. Keep the original footage while resolving the upload.
My activity upload failed or hasn’t appeared. What should I do?
Uploading and processing are separate steps. Check All Activities before uploading again, especially if the original upload was accepted but the analysis is still processing.
For a session recorded in Vantage, return to Record on Device → Saved recordings on the phone that captured it. Keep the recording until the uploaded activity is available. For an imported file, keep the original and check that its format is supported.
If it still fails, contact support with the file type or recording device, the error message and what you tried. Include the original recording if you are comfortable sharing it so we can investigate.
